After much hype and
anticipation the 2007 Mr. Olympia contest finally arrived. I've never
looked forward to a bodybuilding contest more than this one and now
that it's come and gone I can't believe how disappointed I am.
Ronnie,
the greatest bodybuilder of all time. I was hoping you'd be able to
dig deep and bring back the Ronnie of 03 and give Jay a run for the
title. This was not to be. You've won many battles but you've finally
found the one foe you cannot defeat, father time. He gets us all in the
end and you held him off longer than most. Thanks for all the great
memories champ and enjoy your retirement. It's going to be a long time
before we see a bodybuilder greater than you.
Victor,
congratualtions, you did it, the rightful winner of the 2007 Mr.
Olympia. You showed up in your best ever shape and were the class of
the field on Friday. You looked and carried yourself like the champion
the entire weekend. Well done.
Dexter. the blade, sharp and
ready as always. Looked great, I had you second on Friday, not far
behind Vic. If you were just a couple inches taller you'd have a Sandow
by now.
Dennis Wolf, what else can be said other than you looked
fantastic. Absolutely everything a bodybuilder should be. Huge, wide,
conditioned, and that tiny waist is just unbelievable. Few people would
have any problem if you would have won the title last night. Keep doing
exactly what you're doing and you'll have many Sandows on your mantle.
The best thing to happen to bodybuilding in 20 years.
Jay
Cutler. Deep inside we knew you were going to win no matter how you
showed up and you proved us exactly right. I still can't believe how
bad he looked on Friday night. Jay looked completely smooth, like he
was literally 10 days out. He also looked dead tired and like he had
stuck his entire head into a bottle of peroxide. I'm not sure what
exactly Jay did or didn't do, but I expected so much more of his first
title defense. A complete disappointment in every way. I had him in
fourth on Friday night and that might have been generous.
All
of this was setting up for an amazing olympia finals, with a new
winner, but of course this is the IFBB and Saturday night comes and the
usual bullshit occurs. Jay tightens up just enough that the IFBB can
say he made a valiant comeback even though Victor was the clear winner
of prejudging and held his condition on Saturday night. And how in the
world Dennis Wolf can't get even one #### callout beside Vic and Jay is
an absolute joke. The one callout the fans were dying to see most never
occurs once the entire weekend. A total crock of ####.
In the
end exactly what everyone knew would happen happened. Jay, an AMI and
Muscletech competitor was given the title over a more deserving winner.
Period. The dirty little secret of bodybuilding on display on it's
biggest stage. All of the hype and anticipation for the outcome we all
knew all along would happen months ago. The sport deserves so much
better than these predetermined politically motivated outcomes.
