Just to bring everyone up to speed regarding the Ironman Pro show....
As most of you will remember the thread about the prize money debate, the people from Ironman mag. (the promoters/reps) basically said "why not put your money where your mouths are" (in reference to myself and Shawn Ray).
Here's the latest... should clear up any doubts anyone had over what exactly the problem is in regards to the prize money not being increased in 15 YEARS.....
Shawn personally went out and found a few sponsors to pledge $3,000 for a "best poser and most muscular" award. Shawn called John Balik (the promoter) and offered this for his show, the only thing needed in return was a mention of the presenting sponsor when the award was to be given on stage.
John Balik's response??
"Thanks but no thanks". "We're already planning on giving out the "Vince Gironda" best poser award to the tune of $1,000."
THEY ACTUALLY TURNED DOWN $3,000, TO GIVE OUT $1,000!
John did, however, offer to take the money if Shawn..*quote* "wanted to GIVE it to us...." for their own purposes, of course.
Needless to say, some of the competing athletes that have a good chance at the award aren't to happy to hear this news.
BTW...Shawn actually PURCHASED $1,000 worth of tickets for some students of his to attend the Ironman Pro.
Unbelievable......
