This chili isn’t only a low fat alternative to your favorite winter warm up treat, but it is packed with protein – and tastes great!  Enjoy!

 Mayhem Recipes - Winter Chili Roundup

INGREDIENTS:
 *1 pound 97% lean ground beef (or buy the leanest available)     *1 ½ cups bottled water 
        
 *1 pound 98% lean ground turkey breast  *1 (6oz.) can tomato paste 
      
 *1/2 teaspoon chili powder *1 (8oz.) can red kidney beans 
      
 *1/4 teaspoon ground cumin    *1 (8oz.) can Mexican-style chili beans 
      
 *1 large onion (diced)  *1 (12oz.) can Light Beer (optional)  
      
 *4 cloves garlic, chopped & minced (or 4 teaspoons minced garlic in jar) *3 tablespoons chili powder (or to taste)  
      
 *1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and diced *No-Salt brand seasoning (to taste)  
      
   *Tabasco sauce (to taste)  *Black pepper (to taste)  
      
 *2 (15oz.) cans low-sodium tomato sauce *1 (15 ½ oz.) can fat free chili with beans  
      
  *Pam or Non-stick cooking spray    


DIRECTIONS:
Place ground beef and ground turkey in a skillet along with ½ teaspoon chili powder and cumin.  Cook meat until crumbled and browned.  Drain meat (if needed) and set aside.  Spray empty skillet with cooking spray.  Sauté onion, garlic and jalapeno until tender.  Place cooked meat and vegetables in a preheated crock pot set on high heat.  Add tomato sauce, un-drained chili, water and tomato paste. 

Place ground beef and ground turkey in a skillet along with ½ teaspoon chili powder and cumin.  Cook meat until crumbled and browned.  Drain meat (if needed) and set aside.  Spray empty skillet with cooking spray.  Sauté onion, garlic and jalapeno until tender.  Place cooked meat and vegetables in a preheated crock pot set on high heat.  Add tomato sauce, un-drained chili, water and tomato paste. 

Simmer for 20 minutes.

Add kidney beans, chili beans, beer (optional), remaining 3 tablespoons chili powder, No-Salt, pepper and Tabasco to the crock pot.  Simmer 20 more minutes or for the best results set the crock pot on low and simmer for several hours or overnight [The longer the chili simmers, the better the taste].  If desired, sprinkle a small amount of fat free cheddar cheese and top with a dollop of fat free sour cream.
