marion jonesSan Francisco (AP) -- The convicted ringleader in the BALCO doping scandal settled a defamation lawsuit brought by track star Marion Jones over allegations that she used banned performance-enhancing drugs, a lawyer in the case said Tuesday.
Jones settled her $25 million suit in U.S. District Court here Monday against Victor Conte, who's serving a four-month prison term for his role in the multi-athlete steroid scandal.


Terms of the deal were not disclosed.


"The case has been settled on confidential terms," Conte attorney James Wagstaffe said. Jones' attorneys did not return messages.

10 Years in Jail for distributingA Tucson man was sentenced Friday to more than 10 years in prison after being found guilty of conspiracy to distribute steroids, money laundering and bribery.

Aaron Habben, 35, was arrested after U.S. customs officials found packages filled with anabolic steroids that were being shipped to mailboxes in Tucson from China in February 2002, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

It has been confirmed that Canadian athletes who tested positive for a new designer steroid were bodybuilders, and not Olympic athletes.

The Edmonton Journal reported in its Friday edition that a half-dozen urine samples sent to a lab in Pointe Claire, Que., outside Montreal, yielded a positive result for a performance-enhancing substance.

Jeremy Griggs says he would never consider using steroids to elevate his athletic ability.

Griggs, 17, a junior wrestler at Chambersburg Area Senior High School, knows true athleticism can be demonstrated only through natural talent. He says he would not object to being tested for steroids if such a procedure were ever mandated by state officials.

"I only train and take protein," Griggs said of his regimen.

Whether high school athletes nationwide should be tested for steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs has become a hot topic in the aftermath of New Jersey Gov. Richard Codey's decision in December. Codey approved random steroid testing...

Bryan Berard Suspended for SteroidsCOLUMBUS, Ohio – Blue Jackets defenseman Bryan Berard accepted a two-year suspension from international competition for taking a banned steroid, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Friday.
Since the test Berard failed wasn't part of NHL testing, he won't be subject to league discipline.

A sample taken from Berard on Nov. 12 tested positive for 19-norandrosterone, a steroid that helps athletes add strength and muscle and lose weight. The sample was collected after his name was submitted by USA Hockey as a potential Olympic participant.

JACKSONVILLE -- Four state Department of Corrections officers have been charged with steroid possession, according to court documents filed Friday.

The four men face up to a year in prison if convicted, The Florida Times-Union reported. All four are charged with possessing steroids in either 2002 or 2003, records show.

None of the four have been arrested, but they will receive summonses to appear in court. They were placed on paid leave Friday.
