As has been widely reported, Charlie Rose made a terrible faux pas during his annual New Year's Eve tribute on PBS to important people who died in 2008 when he included filmmaker George Butler among the dead. Brothers receiving prison sentences for steroid distribution PDF Print E-mail

Nearly two years after federal agencies launched an undercover investigation into an international steroid distribution organization, two bodybuilding brothers from Watertown are receiving their prison sentences.

According to information released by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the IRS' Criminal Investigation unit, Justin and Jonathan DeProspo, formerly of 10 Merrill Road, were involved with the local distribution of steroids.

After pleading guilty to multiple felony charges, Justin DeProspo, 23, was sentenced April 4, in U.S. District Court to serve one year and one day in federal prison.

Nubain and BodybuildersFor years one would hear stories of bodybuilders experimenting with drugs from Dan Duchaine to Arnold Schwarzeneger. They used it for various reasons such as pain management, speed in recovery, depression, etc. One of the most dangerous and addictive drugs in the bodybuilding world is/was Nubain. Highly addictive, it was used to deal with managing the pain after a strenuous workout or in some instances, to manage pain during a workout. Some even took the opioid to a new level by mixing them with crystal meth to take the edge off.

Fortunately for some but not others, the manufacturing of Nubain has been stopped. The profit margins for producers were too small.

What an amazing achievement for Blonska, a supremely skilled performance-enhancer, who has been busted not once but twice. She was given a two-year international athletics ban after she was caught taking a steroid in 2003 and yet, through sheer strength of will, managed to resurrect her doping career in time for Beijing. Now that's a story worthy of an NBC athlete profile in soft focus with tinkly piano music in the background.
