As has been widely reported, Charlie Rose made a terrible faux pas
during his annual New Year's Eve tribute on PBS to important people who
died in 2008 when he included filmmaker George Butler among the dead.
Butler's best known film is Pumping Iron, which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger during his bodybuilding days.

For years one would hear stories of bodybuilders experimenting with drugs from Dan Duchaine to Arnold Schwarzeneger. They used it for various reasons such as pain management, speed in recovery, depression, etc. One of the most dangerous and addictive drugs in the bodybuilding world is/was Nubain. Kudos to Ukraine as it shoots to the top of our Excellence in Doping medals table. Its star heptathlete Liudmyla Blonska stands to lose her her silver medal after testing positive for a steroid.
What an amazing achievement for Blonska, a supremely skilled performance-enhancer, who has been busted not once but twice. She was given a two-year international athletics ban after she was caught
taking a steroid in 2003 and yet, through sheer strength of will, managed to resurrect her doping career in time for Beijing. Now that's a story worthy of an NBC athlete profile in soft focus with tinkly piano music in the background.

The Great Wall of China proved to be too much for Plano's David Jacobs, a former Marine. Hiking it in 2002 left him winded, feeling weak and embarrassed. It marked a turning point in his life, and he vowed to change.
He became a workout fiend. Then a training guru. And somewhere along the way, a self-taught chemist who produced high-grade anabolic steroids that would transform some of his customers into walking billboards for performance-enhancing drugs, Mr. Jacobs and people who know him say.
